In Brazil, General Motors has taken the veils off the 2017 Chevrolet S10 mid-size pickup truck. Inspired by the Holden Colorado Xtreme Concept presented at the 2016 Bangkok Motor Show, the S10 will gladly borrow its styling cues to the Holden Colorado.
GM works in mysterious and often not-so-complicated ways. Then again, the 2017 Holden Colorado will definitely be a step forward for the Australian manufacturer. “With significant local engineering, this vehicle will be the most refined Colorado ever while maintaining all of the capability of the current model. When combined with a new design that balances elegance and strength, it will perfectly bridge the gap between weekday workhorse and weekend explorer,” noted Peter Keley, the executive director of Holden.
Compared to the rough and tough persona of the current Colorado, the 2017 model year is a nod to the DNA of American pickup trucks. The exterior redesign brings more sculptural artistry to the table and slim LED daytime running lights. The dual-port grille split by the Holden emblem will continue to be the focal point.
On the inside, Holden Australia, Chevrolet Brazil, and Chevrolet Thailand have worked together to bring more lavishness to an otherwise utilitarian cabin. The new-look dashboard, redesigned center console, 8-inch touchscreen featuring the latest MyLink infotainment system, and soft touch materials are the name of the game here. For the more tech-savvy customer, the Colorado will offer Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Due to arrive in late 2016, the refreshed Colorado will carry over the 2.8-liter four-cylinder Duramax turbo diesel engine that churns out 147 kW (200 PS or 197 horsepower) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque.
When properly equipped, the 2017 model year is expected to tow a maximum of 3.5 tonnes (7,716 pounds), the same towing capacity the 2016 model year boasts with. In 4x4 Manual Chassis DX Single Cab format, the 2017 Holden Colorado should start at AUD 35,990, give or take a few dollars.
