New BMW 5 Series sedan India launch price INR 49.90 lakhs

The new 2017 BMW 5 Series has been officially launched in India at a star studded event in Mumbai with none other than President BMW India, Vikram Pawah and cricketing legend, Sachin Tendulkar in attendance.

Launched in three variants: Sport, Luxury and S Sport, 5 Series will be imported as a CKD, to be assembled at the company plant in Chennai. The new 5 Series is available at a base price of INR 49.90 lakhs for the 530i, and goes upto INR 61.30 lakhs for the top end 5 Series 530d variant. Below is a detailed price list –

Showcased earlier at the North American International Auto Show, and already launched in several global markets, new BMW 5 Series launches in India today. Bookings opened earlier this month with deliveries set to commence from 1st July 2017. In its new avatar, the BMW 5 Series sports some exterior and interior updates, and is distinctly noted to have borrowed inspiration from the new generation BMW 7 Series sedan.

Exteriors

In terms of features, new 5 Series is seen with its signature kidney grille, twin circular headlamps and hexagonal DRLs in the front while at the rear, LED tail lamps light the way. Dimensions: 2017 BMW 5 Series is 30mm longer than the outgoing model, 7.62mm wider and 15.24mm taller. It sits on a wheelbase now measuring 2974mm, which is 5mm longer than its earlier counterpart.

Interiors

Interiors are loaded with both driver and passenger comforts and infotainment features. The 10.25″ touchscreen infotainment system has voice commands, navigation, automatic climate control and Bluetooth. Among a host of safety features are Dynamic Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist and improved Active Cruise Control with Stop/Go facility.

Interiors also get a 16 speaker, 600 W Harmon Kardon sound system. Seats are done up in quality leather and and on offer is a multi contour massage system. Overall, interiors are quieter due to extensive use of sound deafening material. Remote control parking, remote control display key, and surround view camera bolster ease of controls.

Engine Specs & Transmission

2017 BMW 5 Series is powered by two diesel, and one petrol engine. The diesel variants run on a a 2.0 litre, four cylinder engine offering 190 hp power and 400 Nm torque and a 3.0 litre, in-line, six cylinder engine offering 265 hp power and 620 Nm torque mated to an 8 speed ZF transmission. The 2.0 litre, four cylinder, turbocharged, petrol engine offers 252 hp power and 380 Nm torque. This engine records acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in 6 seconds, and a top speed of 209 kmph.

Competition

– New generation BMW 5 Series will compete against Audi A6, Jaguar XF, Volvo S90, and the recently launched Mercedes Benz E-Class LWB in India.
