KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - City leaders are known for turning the Kansas City skyline different colors for different reasons.

Wednesday night people in and around downtown will notice the buildings glowing green.

Kansas City will go green on the first night of May in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, and to support the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

According to organizers, more than 30% of people living in Missouri suffer from mental health issues. They say the number is higher than the national average.

“We’re honored to be able to light up the Kansas City skyline for such an important cause,” Kristin Feedback, CEO of CommCARE and 988 in Missouri, said. “It not only shines a light on the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Month, but it also helps spotlight the growing need for mental health support our community is facing. We want those struggling to know we are here to help, no matter the situation, all day, every day.”

The Kansas City Marriott Downtown, Union Station, and KC Wheel will also be turned green in support of mental health awareness the night of May 1.
