Rainbows For All Children Guam, a nonprofit organization that has helped mend the hearts of 25,500 grieving children, youth and adults on the island for the past 37 years, is hosting on May 11 a fun and educational “Celebrate Me Day” for children and families.

The event will bring together children under the school year 2023-2024 program, their parents and guardians, for the final session of the school year.

Rainbows For All Children facilitators will gather all the children in groups according to age for interactive communication and activities covered during the school year. One vital value discussed is forgiveness, the cornerstone of the organization.

Topics that will be featured during the May 11 event include communicating and listening to one’s child, do’s and don’ts in a single family or blended family home, feelings, suicide prevention, which will have one or two role playing activities, and reflection on forgiveness, a critical factor of this event, the organization said in a press release.

The event will be held at PIC Banquet rooms for the lessons and activities, and a lunch buffet will be served at Skylight.

Kids and their parents and guests can also enjoy the water park.

This event is open for Rainbows For All Children Guam families, children, and Rainbow Facilitator volunteers.

There is help

Rainbows For All Children-Guam is a 501 C-3 non-profit international evidence-based organization that offers training and curricula for establishing a peer support group for children and adults who are grieving a death, divorce, incarceration, military deployment, abandonment or other life painful transition in their family.

“When a change takes place in the family, whether it is a death, divorce, separation, or other life altering crisis, it has a profound effect on all members in a family,” the organization said. “Grieving is a natural process which evolves from an emotional loss. If it is not facilitated at the appropriate time, it may be repressed or become chronic.”

Rainbows For All Children said when grief does not have an opportunity to be resolved, its impact can be destructive.

“Grief is an expression of love and a normal human reaction to a significant loss,” it said. “Frequently, people are not able to express their grief verbally. It surfaces in their attitude, behavior, academics, physical, social, mental and/ or emotional well-being.”

Children are not always able to express their feelings in words, the organization said. Their parents are suffering as well and may be unable to initially support them.

“Consequently, anguished children need to have caring adults to guide them through their sorrow. Even those who appear to be coping are often struggling inside with conflicting emotions of regrets, pain and heartaches,” Rainbows for All Children said. “The bereaved need and deserve someone they can talk with and trust; someone who will listen to their story while guiding them through their grief process.”

Rainbows For All Children said it was created to provide children, adolescents, and adults an opportunity for healing after their painful loss.

Its support groups are led by trained, certified compassionate caring adults who volunteer their time to be with the hurting students.
